MOVING INTO A SMART. HOME SOON? LOOKING FOR SOME HELPFUL HINTS AND TIPS ON WHAT TO EXPECT ON MOVING DAY? WE’VE PUT TOGETHER A QUICK LIST WITH OUR SMART. TOP TIPS FOR THAT SPECIAL DAY.
Big boxes might seem like a great idea (it’s way easier to put everything in one box, right?!), but wait ’til you try to lift them! This is just as important if you are employing a removals company or roping in friends & family to give you a hand; no one wants a bad back from lugging around your cookbook collection!
2. THE ESSENTIALS
Keep your essentials to one side, or clearly label the box with your most important items in for those first few hours in your new home; the kettle, some loo roll and your mobile phone charger. Other useful items to keep to one side include any first aid items, pain relievers, toothbrush and toothpaste and a small tool kit. And not forgetting the hair straighteners & hair dryer for that first morning back to work!
3. THE BIG STUFF
Before picking up your sofa, have you checked ahead that all doors are open and you know which banisters you need to manoeuvre around? This is always easier to do when your hands aren’t full of a 3 piece suite!
Setting up a postal divert for your mail can be vital; this gives you a few extra weeks or months to contact everyone from your storecard memberships, to your bank and doctor’s surgery to let them know of your new address. Quickest and easiest way is by visiting the Post Office website.
5. “WHEN DID WE GET THIS?!”
We asked a few of our SMART. team what was the one most important bit of advise you could give a home mover, and without doubt everyone agreed on having a clearout before you pack! If you’ve not used it for more than 6 months, not worn it for a couple of years, or still haven’t unpacked the box from last time you moved, you probably don’t need it.
The SMART. team are looking forward to welcoming you to your new home!
